I did the Anthem sprint on Saturday morning... was a fun race, and it was my best overall so far I think. This was a true reverse, so the run was first. The mass-start was pretty cool, I think it pushed me to try not to walk at all. After a couple minutes of running around 8 min miles, I decided I'd try to stay under 9 for the first mile, then under 10 for the second and under 11 for the third. I managed the first mile fine and just kept going... I only ended up walking twice, and I kept those to only 20 seconds or so. Finished the run at 27 minutes, which I think is a record for me... so that's pretty cool.
The bike was harder than I expected... I thought it was going to be more flat, but there is a bit of a hill there. Looks like it was about 150 ft up and down x3 laps. Ended up averaging 16.4 mph, I'm happy with that. On the second lap, I really tried to work on the uphill parts, but I think on the third lap I was just spent.
The swim was okay, but I screwed up a bit. I forgot to take off my number, so I could feel it dragging behind me the whole time. I doubt that really affected my time much at all, but it was irritating. Plus the whole passing / congestion was a mess in the pool. I clocked somebody once with the back of my hand (think it hurt me more than them), and had a hard time getting past a couple people. I think I prefer the open water swims, but those are scary too (kicks to the head at the beginning, etc). Managed to keep the swim to under 10 minutes, so I'm happy with that too.
Of course, after the race I went out to San Diego to meet some friends, and drank too much, then went to Laguna Beach and drank too much again. Now why I decided to go and make myself feel terrible after making myself feel really great on Saturday, I don't know.
